Shaolin Masters Hunt Sponsors For Russian Showdown

Two martial arts fighters are bound for Russia in September after qualifying to represent Great Britain in the Euro championship.

Mickell Lemard and Will Mackay, who train at the Shaolin Temple UK in Junction Road, Tufnell Park, were chosen to represent their country after taking gold at the British Nationals in Milton Keynes.

They specialise in San Shou, a technique taught at the Shaolin Temple by Master, Shifu Yanzi, and are among a 10-strong squad from the club to have won medals at the competition.

Mickell, who lives in Kilburn, won gold in the 60-65kg at the same competition last year and continued his form to win at 70kg this year.

Club colleague Will, of East Finchley, retained the 75kg category gold he won last year.

“They are both very good fighters and represented us last October in the four nations championships in Kent,” says BCCMA treasurer Des Harman. “They did well there and hopefully over the next two or three years they will show their potential.”

The two fighters are now looking for sponsorship towards the £600 cost of their Russia trip. Anyone interested should call Yvette Doherty, assistant fight co-ordinator on 020 7687 8333.
