Meditation and Qi Gong
Open to everyone. Meditation improves concentration and calms the mind while Qi Gong
improves the circulation, strengthens the immune system, increases mobility and flexibility.
Together they greatly improve general physical condition, heighten the senses and help
students advance faster with their Gong Fu training. Older students and those with poor
health particularly will experience increased vitality and improved health.
Adult Classes
Gong Fu Preparation
Entry level class for new students. This class builds the high levels of all-round
fitness for which Shaolin Gong Fu is famous. Stamina, flexibility, coordination and
Shaolin Basic Skills are all developed and regardless of your current condition you
will quickly achieve never before experienced levels of fitness. The starting-point
for all students wishing to go on to study Shaolin Gong Fu. Students passing the
Preparation Exam may advance to the Gong Fu Foundation class.
Gong Fu Foundation
Foundation builds on the fitness developed at Preparation level and introduces basic
Shaolin Sanshou skills, the Shaolin Xiao Hong Quan form and body conditioning in the form of
bag and pad work. Students passing the Gong Fu Foundation Exam may advance to the 9 stages
of Shaolin Gong Fu Training.
Rooster
Stage 1 of the Shaolin Temple UK 9 Stage Gong Fu Grading System. For students passing the
Foundation Exam. Rooster students learn traditional Shaolin techniques and their applications
and practice sparring and body conditioning prior to full contact sparring at Oxen level.

Oxen
Stage 2 of the Shaolin Temple UK 9 Stage Gong Fu Grading System. For students passing the
Rooster Exam. At this level students develop their strength and skill to the maximum ready
for full contact sparring. Oxen students participate in inter club events as well as full
contact Sanshou practice at STUK. “Students must be like the Oxen: quiet, patient and
diligent, always working no matter what, never complaining.” Shifu Shi Yanzi
Traditional Forms
Open to all students at Gong Fu Foundation Stage and above. This class aims to refine and
deepen students’ understanding of traditional Shaolin forms, improve their knowledge of the
applications and enhance their practical fighting ability.
Shaolin 72 Styles
Open to students at Foundation level and above. This class is a unique opportunity to study
the traditional body conditioning techniques developed over the past 1500 years at the Shaolin
Temple in China. This training is a challenge to students’ willpower but the rewards of
perseverance are greatly improved physical condition and Gong Fu skill. After a general
introduction Shifu Shi Yanzi will personally choose one style for each student and teach
him or her how to translate it into practical Gong Fu fighting techniques. “To gain the
benefits of this class you will need willpower and perseverance. Only those with the
strongest character will succeed.” Shifu Shi Yanzi
Children's Classes (Ages 6 - 16)
Children's & Teen's Gong Fu Preparation
Children learn Shaolin Basic Skills similar to those taught in adult Gong Fu Preparation
classes as well as developing their stamina, flexibility and coordination. As a result their
general self-confidence grows and they may go on to study Gong Fu at a higher level when they
pass the Preparation Exam.
Children's & Teen's Gong Fu Foundation
Having passed the Gong Fu Preparation Exam, children learn traditional Shaolin forms and
Sanshou techniques as well as continuing to improve their general physical fitness, flexibility
and coordination. Students successfully taking the Gong Fu Foundation Exam graduate to Rooster level.
Children's & Teen's Rooster
The Rooster class carefully builds and nurtures students’ abilities using traditional and modern
conditioning techniques, forms and soft contact sparring, from which they gain fast reactions,
confidence and self-defence ability. In addition the demanding study develops self-discipline and
strengthens character.
